The Need for a Gluten Free Vegan Frosting Recipe

As you may know from my other blog posts, due to an autoimmune disease I am gluten free, dairy free, and soy free, among other foods I’ve found to bother me and lead to inflammation within my body. My oldest son is also sensitive to gluten and dairy.

Therefore, we needed to find an easy gluten free vegan frosting recipe for everything from cakes to cupcakes to cookies!

We had tried a lot of different recipes but hadn’t found one that really fit what we were looking for, until my husband decided to make one of his own.

Easy Gluten Free Vegan Frosting Recipe

Looking for a gluten free and vegan frosting recipe that is only 4 ingredients and super easy to make? This recipe makes enough frosting for about 18 sugar cookies. You'll want to double the recipe if frosting a cake or cupcakes.
Prep Time 15 minutes
Total Time 15 minutes
Course Dessert
Servings 18 cookies

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup Earth Balance Soy Free Buttery Spread Butter
  • 2 cups Powdered Sugar
  • 1 tbsp Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk
  • 3/4 tsp Vanilla

Instructions

  • Hand Mixer or Stand Mixer works the best, we prefer using our stand mixer.
  • Cream the vegan butter in the bowl of the stand mixer or using a hand mixer, on medium speed for 2 minutes.
  • Using a sifter, sift the powdered sugar over the bowl with the creamed vegan butter.
  • Beat sifted sugar and vegan butter to combine.
  • Add in almond milk and vanilla, then mix again.
  • If you want it to be thinner you can add more milk, just a little at a time.
  • Once it's to the consistency you'd like, you're done and ready to frost!
  • Use the frosting within 3 days stored at room temp or store in fridge for a couple of weeks. If you store in the fridge before frosting cookies, a cake, or cupcakes you'll want to take it out of the fridge to let it soften up a bit before using it.
  • This recipe makes enough frosting for about 18 sugar cookies. You'll want to double the recipe if frosting a cake or cupcakes.

Notes

This recipe will work for a batch of sugar cookies though you’ll want to double it if you want to frost a cake or cupcakes. We’ve used this recipe on cookies, a gingerbread house, cake, cupcakes, basically anything that could ever need frosting. It’s simple and delicious!!

Recommended Stand Mixer

As I mentioned above, we prefer our stand mixer for making frosting and anything else we need to bake. We have a KitchenAid stand mixer that we got years ago on Facebook Marketplace when someone had upgraded their stand mixer.

Originally, my husband wanted it to make bread, which he did for a year or so until we discovered I need to be gluten free, among other things, which complicated things. Now that we are more comfortable with cooking and baking gluten free, dairy free, and soy free recipes, we use our KitchenAid Mixer all the time!

KitchenAid mixers come in different colors and sizes, truly something for everyone and every kitchen!
